The man toppled over a rail on the second deck and fell to the field level seats at the Rangers stadium in Arlington, Texas, said John Blake, a spokesman for the Rangers.

The man fell on top of four fans causing minor injuries to them, Blake said.

“He was able to move all his extremities and was responsive to the paramedics and was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital in Fort Worth,” Blake said.

Taisto Miettinen, who was defending his champion title, raced through a 250-metre (273-yard) course with two hurdles and a pool in just over one minute four seconds, carrying Kristiina Haapanen on his back.

The winners beat Estonia’s Alar Voogla and Kristi Viltrop, who also took silver last year, by 0.4 seconds.

The 45-year-old Miettinen, a commercial lawyer by day, attended the competition for 10 years before grabbing gold — and putting an end to Estonia’s 11-year reign — last year.

He told AFP by phone he did not beat his 2009 score of 62 seconds because of a bigger pool.

“I love competing and I love winning. We practiced a lot, but the race was not as easy as last year because the pool was bigger,” said the winner, who excels at a number of other sports.

Sobhy el-Ganzoury said Saturday it took two hours and much pulling to deliver the rare calf. He said the difficult birth has weakened the calf’s legs.

El-Ganzoury said the veterinarian informed him that the calf, which was born this week, is now in stable condition and is expected to survive. He said he intends to keep the animal as a reminder that “God is able to do anything.”

The calf still can’t stand up because of its heavy heads and weak legs, and is being fed her mother’s milk with a baby bottle.

GRAND ISLE, La. – Rough seas generated by Hurricane Alex pushed more oil from the massive spill onto Gulf Coast beaches Wednesday as cleanup vessels were sidelined by the faraway storm’s ripple effects.

The hurricane was churning coastal waters across the oil-affected region on the Gulf of Mexico. Six-foot waves and 25 mph winds were forecast through Thursday just offshore from the Mississippi Delta in Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.

In Louisiana, the storm pushed an oil patch toward Grand Isle and uninhabited Elmer’s Island, dumping tar balls as big as apples on the beach. Cleanup workers were kept at bay by pouring rain and lightning that zigzagged across the dark sky. Boom lining the beach had been tossed about, and it couldn’t be put back in place until the weather cleared.

LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s financial regulator has fined and banned a former broker for manipulating oil prices by buying more than 7 million barrels while on a drinking binge.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) said it fined Steven Perkins, a former employee of PVM Oil Futures Ltd, 72,000 pounds ($108,000) and banned him from working in financial services for at least five years for carrying out trades without the authority of clients or his employer.

The FSA said Perkins bought huge volumes of Brent crude oil

in the early hours of the morning on June 30, 2009 after drinking heavily for several days and then lied repeatedly to his employer to cover up his actions.

“Perkins’ drunkenness does not excuse his market abuse,” said Alexander Justham, director of markets at the FSA.

The summer immediately after I had graduated high school my friend threw a party. I was 17 at the time. To my complete surprise, both his parents were in attendance and the very first thing all of us had to do was surrender our car keys to his mother, who promptly locked them somewhere in the house. All of us drank alcohol that night, and yes, some of us, including myself got drunk.

No one got completely out of control, no one vomited, no fights were started. For myself it was a lesson in pacing myself over the course of the night. I’m lucky in that my parents had the foresight and wisdom to realize that despite all their best intentions, they couldn’t absolutely stop me from drinking when I went away to college.
